Welcome to 65% Plus

Welcome. This website explains how Peterborough City Council will strive to recycle or recover more than 65 per cent of discarded household materials and use the remaining materials as a fuel to generate both electricity and heat for use by local communities.

Following wide-ranging public consultation beginning in 2001 and extensive investigations by a councillor-led cross-party Members’ Waste and Recycling Working Group (MWRWG), the full city council approved the plans on 28 February 2007.

Peterborough has a proud reputation as a leading recycler among local authorities and its 65% Plus recycling and recovery target is among the highest in the country. It supports Peterborough’s commitment to sustainable living, which was rewarded with Environment City status in 1992.  It also contributes to Peterborough's international reputation for environmental expertise, which is expressed in its ambition to become known as the UK’s Environment Capital.

Planning Exhibition

Views are being sought about the proposed energy-from-waste facility that will use Peterborough's non-recycled municipal waste as a fuel to generate renewable energy. Residents were able to view and comment upon the proposals at a statutory planning exhibition held on 25 and 26 September 2008 at the former RSG building on Fengate. There will be other opportunities to comment when planning applications are submitted.
